Comment On County Budget

In response to today’s report on Orange County government’s financial shortfall and the upcoming hearings to discuss potential cuts in the county’s next budget, Orange County Professional Fire Fighters President George Romano issued this statement

“In this continuing economic climate, Orange County Professional Fire Fighters know more tough decisions will have to be made by the county.  But we also know rushing to cut Fire Rescue service and potentially jobs at the level that the mayor says may be needed can come at extreme costs to the safety of citizens.”

“Even in hard times, public officials must focus on providing the best possible emergency services and not reduce our standards by cutting back on the manpower, man hours or the fire stations needed to protect homes and save lives.’’

“We recognize that everyone needs to do his or her part to help the community. It's crucial that the administration and the county departments work together over the next few months before final budget decisions are due to explore new ideas and smart solutions. ’’
